Can I Run CS:GO? Given that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was released back in 2012 the chances are high that your computer is able to run it with high success. If not, then you should determine what components you have, so that you know what you need to upgrade.

While most computers are capable of running Counter-Strike, you should still consider upgrading yours if you feel you are lagging. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a game where you want to have as many frames as possible to minimize the risk that you die because of a framerate drop.

If you can’t afford to upgrade your computer you should consider lowering your graphical settings. Running your game at a lower resolution can also be a good idea. A lot of Counter-Strike professionals like to play at a stretched 4:3 resolution, because it makes the enemies appear bigger, while at the same time greatly increasing their frames per second.

It is possible to run CS:GO on Windows, Linux and macOS.

CS:GO System Requirements

You can find the CS:GO system requirements here:

CS:GO Minimum System Requirements

With these settings, you should expect to be able to run the game at around 30 frames per second at 720p, which is far from ideal for most people. If you want to reach the higher ranks you should consider upgrading.

  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 / AMD Phenom X3 8750 or better
  • RAM: 2 GB
  • HDD: 15 GB of storage space
  • GPU: Video card must be 256 MB or more and should be a DirectX 9-compatible with support for Pixel Shader 3.0
  • OS: Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP
  • DirectX: Version 9.0c
  • Screen Resolution: 720p
  • Network: Broadband Internet Connection

CS:GO Recommended System Requirements

With the recommended settings you should expect to run at 60 frames per second at 720p, but much less at 1080p.

  • CPU: Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5700 3GHz / AMD Phenom 8750 Triple-Core
  • RAM: 2 GB
  • HDD: 15 GB of storage space
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 / AMD Radeon HD 6670
  • OS: Windows 7
  • DirectX: Version 9.0c
  • Screen Resolution: 1080p
  • Network: Broadband Internet Connection

Optimal Hardware Suggestion

If you want to run Counter-Strike at a high fps you should do the following upgrades. Counter-Strike is a very CPU dependent game, so it is recommended that you have a newer Intel i5 / AMD equivalent. You should try to get at least 8GB of ram, 16 + GB of ram is preferred. You also want to have a decent GPU like an Nvidia 1060 or later, so that you don’t end up bottlenecking your computer.

Purchasing a 144 Hz or 240 Hz monitor will also be a very great idea since it allows your monitor to show more frames each second. A standard 60 Hz monitor is capable of showing  60 frames per second, while a 144 Hz is capable of showing 144 frames per second. Having those extra frames can really make a big difference. Just don’t forget to turn on 144 Hz as I did for the first year.
